Be Prepared for exercise and drill: Hike some small mountains: walking is the best way to get fit yourself for the long hike up Kilimanjaro. You need to build up stamina. It's a good idea to get a basic medical check-up before you go. You don't want to be dealing with an ingrown toenail or worse at 5896 Meters. Travel insurance that includes medical is required.

Pack your Personal belongs:
Pack light but make sure you have everything you need to deal with altitude and variation in temperatures. Don't worry about carrying your own luggage since a porter will take up to 17kg of your personal gears. You can bring your own sleeping bags and some equipments and clothing but also is possible to rent.

Select your favorite route
The maximum hike is at least 6-7 days for success. For short days you will not acclimatized properly. Routes vary in degree of difficulty, traffic and scenic beauty. The least difficult routes are Rongai. The tougher routes are Machame, Shira and Limosho. The volcanic smell courses some climbers vomit and fill uncomfortable in Marangu route. The longer routes may have more difficult hiking but you'll be more acclimatized and your chances of reaching the summit are therefore higher. The longer western routes also allow you to start your summit day at a more reasonable hour.

How to deal with altitude
Taking your walking slowly you will hear the Swahili guides saying "pole pole" means slowly slowly. Drink lots of water about 4-5 liters a day is recommended. Water from mountain streams after the first day are ok to drink. Remember to carry the mountain sickness pills.

Reaching to Uhuru summit.
The hardest part of the trek is to reach Uhuru peak. Pace yourself, be determined to reach the summit. The final ascent is usually timed so you can watch the sunrise over the crater and distant plains. Enjoy the view of the mountain and distant plains.
